CDT Chair update - May

Committee of Doctors in Training Chair Dr Elise Witter talks about the upcoming Junior Doctor Conference in Cairns, collaborating with the Junior Medical Officer Forum of Queensland and CrazySocks4Docs.

The CDT continues to be busy advocating for doctors in training across Queensland. In response to ongoing feedback from IMG doctors in training and our colleagues, we are looking to collaborate with the Junior Medical Officer Forum of Queensland to develop minimum standards in orientation and onboarding for IMGs. If you are interested in joining the working group around this, please get in touch with our Education and Training SIG Lead Dr Jasmine Davis via cdt@amaq.com.au. We would especially love to hear from IMGs around what their needs are in this space. We are also in the final stages of completing our ward call report, and look forward to sharing the recommendations with Hospital and Health Services across the state.

We are also finalising the program for the Junior Doctor Conference in Cairns in June, and are excited to announce that this event will be carbon neutral. We will be planting trees for each attendee to offset carbon emissions produced during the event and will be hosting the event at Crystalbrook, which has received silver level certification from EarthCheck in recognition of their sustainability practices. Increasing the sustainability of events and activities of the AMA Queensland has been an initiative of the CDT over the past year and we are excited to see this coming to fruition.

CrazySocks4Docs is coming up in June, and we look forward to marking this important day. CrazySocks4Docs Day recognises doctors’ mental health and aims to reduce stigma and start the conversation around wellbeing. Our Wellbeing SIG is currently collating wellbeing resources for doctors in training, and we look forward to continuing to support doctors’ mental wellbeing throughout the year. In honour of this upcoming event, we’ve included articles on keeping well in medicine in this edition of The Script. We also have upcoming events planned at the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast and are keen to host activities across all hospitals throughout the year via our hospital reps.
